Srinagar, Jul 18 (KNO): The government on Saturday extended summer vacation for all schools of Kashmir division and winter zones of Jammu division till Wednesday in view of prevailing heat weather conditions and inclement weather advisory. Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Education Minister Sakina Itoo said, “Summer vacations have been extended by three more days for schools in Kashmir division and winter zones of Jammu division.” “The vacation has been announced in view of the prevailing heat wave and the inclement weather advisory issued by the weatherman,” the minister said. Earlier, the minister said that the Jammu and Kashmir government will take a final decision on whether to extend summer vacations in schools after reviewing the prevailing weather conditions. She said the health and well-being of students remain the government's top priority. “There is no doubt that weather conditions in Kashmir are changing. For us, the health of students is more important than anything else,” she added. The government had earlier announced summer vacations for all schools in the Kashmir Division and winter zones of the Jammu Division from July 6 to July 19. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has forecast the prevailing heatwave to continue till July 19 and warned of heavy rainfall and the possibility of flash floods between July 20 and July 23—(KNO)
